Why do you make chemical based sunscreen?

We love mineral sunscreens and advocate for their everyday use. However, there are many people looking for healthier sun protection who (for a variety of reasons) won’t wear mineral sunscreens, and we want to offer the safest and most effective options for them as well.

Our formulas adhere to the FDA’s strict regulatory guidelines and limited active ingredient list while being free of ingredients such as oxybenzone, octinoxate, parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and dyes. We go beyond industry standards to also exclude 1000+ other ingredients that are banned in the EU. Our formulas are also cruelty-free, vegan, dermatologist tested, have skin nourishing ingredients such as Vitamin E and antioxidants, and are safety tested. We are active in advocating for new internationally available active ingredients to be made available in the US, while consciously regulating the number of active ingredients we currently use.

Our mission is to prevent sun damage that can cause skin cancer - which happens to be the most common form of cancer in America. It has affected our families, our friends, and our teammates. In the end, the most effective sunscreen is one that is actually used, and most people either don’t use sunscreen properly or at all (for example, studies show that only approximately 5% of POC use sunscreen). We are passionate about making clean sunscreen. And we are passionate about making inclusive formulas that people love to wear. We’ll continue to evolve and create better-for-you formulas with the hope that more people protect themselves and their loved ones. Safely and effectively.
